Erica currently works with the CCO, a campus ministry organization that partners with Calvary to create a full-time Director of College Ministry position at Calvary. While serving closely with the Calvary staff team, she has the unique opportunity to directly translate the Calvary heartbeat to college students as well as advocate student needs to the Calvary staff team and body. Through Calvary’s College Ministry (called Elements), Erica, along with her co-worker Steve Lutz, focuses on reaching three groups of college students: disconnected students who often fall through the cracks of traditional campus ministry (“the 100”), students who attend Calvary with the goal of helping them connect more deeply to the life of the church (“the 350”), and the other 95% of students at Penn State who do not yet know the hope of Christ (“the 42,000+”). Through Elements, Erica and Steve offer a weekly on-campus gathering where students are equipped, encouraged, and “sent out” to live their faith among their peers. Erica also partners with existing campus ministries to serve students at Calvary and beyond, involves students in service and leadership opportunities, and helps students find a home in the local church. This position not only allows her to see the big picture at Calvary, but also requires that she keep a pulse on the larger scope of campus in order to effectively serve the needs of students. Crucial parts of this ministry include developing student leaders as well as non-students Calvary mentors and volunteers, equipping students to live missionally, and preparing students for life-long faithfulness.
