Lifetime Orphaned Children’s Ministries was formed as a result of a mission trip to
Southeast Asia in 2003, by its founder Larry Snyder. Being burdened by the poverty
conditions of so many of the children of Southeast Asia (especially those orphaned
by death or divorce of a parent) and not having the resources to be effective alone, a
study began of other organizations serving the underprivileged we became committed
to starting a similar work. Through the help and commitment of family members and
friends we have been fortunate to have made many more trips to the same region in the
last nine years to assess whether we could join God in his work where other organizations
have not been to help. The demand for help far exceeds the supply in almost all the
countries of Southeast Asia but is greatest in Myanmar.
The conclusion drawn was that it would be best to start a sponsorship program that would
address the problem from two perspectives, one meeting the immediate physical need of
food, clothing and shelter and the second meeting the long term spiritual and vocational
needs critical to addressing the present and future needs of the children. The foundation
of this conclusion is from a biblical perspective that man does not live by bread alone.
Lifetime Orphaned Children’s Ministries is dedicated to permanently improving the
lives of the orphaned and abandoned children of Southeast Asia, by partnering with God
in support of already established Christian orphanages and families that do not have
resources beyond their own. The focus of our efforts has changed over the years, having
observed that orphanages in Myanmar are essentially ‘boarding schools’ housing many of
the children for financial gain. While there is some merit to this practice as the children
are exposed to more intentional Christianity there is also a sense on our part that perhaps
there is a better way to provide role models of Christian families. We are moving more
and more toward placing un-parented orphans into families who are self sufficient and
willing to provide family and spiritual structure. In 2010 we began to implement this
plan and are thrilled to report that it has been a blessing to all involved. Our goal for this
year is to add six more family units to those already in place.
At the earliest stages this plan will provide for nutritional and health care needs. As time
progresses we hope to be able to establish training programs for young adult families that
will allow them to be physically and educationally able to support themselves. Through
scholarships we hope to be able to provide advanced education to those children who
show themselves capable of moving beyond required schooling. As future resources
allow we hope to be able to reach out beyond the orphanages to their surrounding
communities though special celebrations and gifts and training opportunities to establish
neighborhood goodwill and self sufficiency outside the orphanages.
Some of our efforts have already been realized, land purchases, new buildings, a facility
dedicated to fasting and prayer are some of the physical evidences. The new dormitories
at the orphanages we work with have played a significant role in less sickness and
diseases among the children. Other benefits may only be seen in eternity, but time will
tell how well we are accomplishing that part of our mission. Please pray for us, we will
accomplish very little without your prayers.
